The Akwe River is a glacier-fed river system that parallels the coast before joining with the New Italio River and entering the Gulf of Alaska. The lower 8 miles of the Akwe River are shallow and wide and provide excellent tidal fishing opportunities for the serious expert angler. The Akwe provides great fishing from June until October. Big feisty Kings (Chinooks) and finicky Sockeye (Reds) are available in the late spring, early summer and aggressive Silvers in the late summer. For the expert adventurer there is a small run of Steelhead and Cutthroat if you know where to look. The Akwe River is a great place to explore!

ITALIO RIVER
The Old Italio River and the Middle Italio Rivers provide inexpensive and excellent Silver Salmon (Coho) fishing. These aggressive fish are best from the 1st of September until around the middle of October. There are other salmon options available at the New Italio River from June thru August. You might have to hike a bit, but if you are up to it, the fishing can be excellent for Kings and Sockeye.
